February 21-22, 2013
Day 1:
8:15 – 9:00 a.m. – Opening Session
- Welcome – Superintendent
- Introduction by McComb Legacies students (present NHD documentary)
9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Student led interactive driving tour (registration required)
Lunch – 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Cotton Gin
5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. – Community discussion at the McComb Public Library (open to the public)
- See the short film produced by McComb high school students on the
history of the voting rights struggle in McComb. This film is a Mississippi
History Day competition entry on Feb. 23. (So you will see a sneak preview!)
- Engage in a dialogue with Civil Rights Movement veterans including John Due, Gwendolyn Zoharah Simmons, Patsy Ruth Butler, Johnny and Michael Nobles, Shirley Bates, and more. Facilitated by Paul Ortiz from the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program.
Day 2:
8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. –Interactive Panel Discussion facilitated by Dr. Paul Ortiz (registration required)
